“I had the absolute pleasure of working with Tamara “ObieLiz” Myles on the production of Ashes Never Rest, and I can say without hesitation that her composition and auditory storytelling were essential to the film’s success. Quite simply, the project would not have been feasible without her.
I often recount this story: during the cast’s first table read, the performance was deeply disappointing. The emotional tone wasn’t landing, and the characters felt undefined. I called for a recess and distributed the character tracks Tamara had composed. I asked the cast to listen closely and allow the frequency, rhythm, and emotional architecture of the music to inform their interpretation of their roles.
The transformation was immediate and remarkable. The actors didn’t just improve — they embodied their characters fully. The performances that followed became a masterclass in presence and emotional truth, and that shift began with Tamara’s music.
Beyond the character tracks, her full film composition elevated the horror and deepened the emotional resonance of the piece in ways that dialogue alone never could. Her ability to blend classical orchestration with contemporary textures resulted in a sonic landscape that was both haunting and refined — a true work of art.
